The Big Apple

...is one of my favorite places to visit. This weekend I traveled to NYC with Mary and Sue...the main reason for the outing was to see one of Mary's childhood friends perform a concert Saturday Night. We arrived in the city mid-afternoon and made our way to ABC warehouse on the lower east side. The best way to describe it is Anthropologie on steroids...we were in heaven. Seven floors of incredible pieces of furniture, accessories, jewelry and clothes, and all of it at top dollar. No temptations to buy anything because it was all out of my league.

The Rosie concert was fantastic - she sounds like the lead singer from the Cranberries. The venue was cozy - a comfy sofa, great sound and good food too.
Sunday we leisurely ate breakfast and then it was on to the Meatpacking District. I've never been to that part of town before in my travels to NY - it is basically industrial buildings that house high end stores on the ground floor. Nothing fancy, but definitely an eclectic feel.

We also walked along the Highline, an old train track that has been renovated into an above ground urban park. It is incredibly well designed and is a great example of reuse of an abandoned space. It really was a great weekend - even though it ended with a one hour wait for the bus home in the rain - but we were able to find humor in the situation with the folks around us which lessened our aggravation.
